For the inauguration of our new brand Carpathian Mint, we have decided to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the adventure novel Around the World in 80 Days, writen by Jules Verne and first published in French in 1872. In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a wager of £20,000 set by his friends at the Reform Club. It’s one of Verne’s most acclaimed works.
The reverse of the coin depicts Phileas and Passepartout’s passage through India, riding an elephant through the jungle.
The observe depicts the many means of transport of the time that our two protagonists used to accomplish their feat. This is the first commemorative coin of Jules Verne’s major works, stay tuned for the next ones and don’t miss them!
