About this series

The Angels and Demons series represents the dichotomy between heaven and hell, between angels and demons, and it has remarkable similarities and differences in Christian and Muslim religions.

In Christianity, angels are spiritual beings created by God, generally seen as messengers and protectors of humans. Demons, on the other hand, are fallen angels, led by Satan, who rebelled against God. Heaven is conceived as the kingdom of God and the place of eternal rest and happiness for the faithful, while hell is a place of eternal punishment for sinners and demons.

In Islam, angels are also God’s creatures, without free will and created of light, who do God’s bidding. Demons (jinn) in Islam, including Iblis (equivalent to Satan in Christianity), are beings created of fire, with free will, and some of them rebelled against God. Heaven (Jannah) in Islam is a place of eternal reward and pleasure for believers, while hell (Jahannam) is a place of torment and suffering for sinners.

Both religions share a belief in the existence of these spiritual realms and beings, and in the eternal struggle between good and evil, but differ in aspects of the nature and role of these beings and places in the cosmological and theological scheme.
